WE R HERE: Applauds Introduction of

Low Value Shipment Regulatory Modernization Act of 2015

Washington, DC – WE R HERE Executive Director and tax fairness advocate Phil Bond today released the following statement regarding the introduction of the Low Value Shipment Regulatory Modernization Act of 2015 by Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Ron Wyden (D-OR):

“On behalf of WE R HERE’s 15,000 members across the country, I applaud Senators Thune and Wyden for their leadership on customs relief legislation. The Low Value Shipment Regulatory Modernization Act of 2015 is a commonsense fix to outdated regulations, and will ease the burden on U.S. small businesses by raising from $200 to $800 the threshold at which goods can be brought duty-free into the United States. Moreover, by encouraging the United States Trade Representative to work with foreign trading partners to raise their de minimis customs threshold, this bill will increase market access for American exporters.

“The reforms included in the Low Value Shipment Regulatory Modernization Act of 2015 are particularly important for small e-retailers like WE R HERE’s member companies, as customs fees and associated paperwork are an outsized burden on companies with only a handful of employees. We encourage Congress to move quickly to pass the Low Value Shipment Regulatory Modernization Act of 2015, helping to expand e-retailers’ access to foreign markets, and in turn spurring job creation here at home.”
