WE R HERE APPLAUDS INTRODUCTION OF TRADE PROMOTION AUTHORITY LEGISLATION

Washington, DC - WE R HERE Executive Director and tax fairness advocate Phil Bond today released the following statement in response to the introduction of bipartisan, bicameral Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR), and House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI):

“WE R HERE thanks Senators Hatch and Wyden and Congressman Ryan for introducing the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015. TPA-15 is an important step towards expanding access to foreign markets for U.S. exporters of all sizes – including small online retailers. Passing TPA-15 will strengthen our negotiators’ hands and enable them to finish work on the Trans Pacific Partnership, secure in the knowledge that the agreement cannot be picked apart by special interests and their allies in Congress.”

In a recent survey, over 80 percent of WE R HERE members reported that they were exporters, with the average seller reaching customers in 15 countries.

“TPA-15 will also strengthen U.S. negotiators’ abilities to pressure other nations to overhaul outdated customs regimes, giving small exporters greater access to foreign markets with less costly red tape and fewer delays," added Bond. "Congress should act quickly to pass TPA-15, so that small e-retailers can reach customers around the globe.”
